The Chinese Civilization as the Foundation of Chinese Path to Modernization
摘要
Abstract
Civilization is the key to understanding the Chinese path to modernization.However,the intricate relationship between Chinese civilization and modernization raises critical questions yet to be resolved:Given the temporal-spatial misalignment between Chinese civilization and modernization,how can a distinctly Chinese path to modernization be defined,differentiating it clearly from the Western model?Considering the historical mis-alignment between tradition and modernity,how can a successful transition from traditional to modern society be achieved?Furthermore,how can Chinese civilization and the Chinese path to modernization transcend the long-standing debates of'ancient versus modern'and'Chinese versus Western'to create a new civilizational form?Decoding the civilizational foundations of the Chinese path to modernization requires uniquely Chinese responses to these multidimensional misalignments—rooting itself deeply in Chinese civilization and leveraging Chinese subjectivity to challenge Western-centrism;drawing upon civilization as the source through the'second integra-tion'to overcome the tradition-modernity dichotomy and shape modernization;and utilizing the cultural essence of Chinese civilization under the principles of'drawing on the past for present use'and'integrating foreign in-sights for China's needs'to surpass traditional debates and usher in a new civilizational paradigm.关键词
