The mechanisms of cuproptosis and its therapeutic application in cancer
摘要
Abstract
Copper is an essential trace element for living organisms,playing a vital role in numerous cellular biological processes.However,both copper deficiency and overload can cause cellular damage.Therefore,it is particularly critical to maintain the intracellular copper levels in the appropriate range.Cuproptosis is a copper-dependent and novel non-apoptotic form of cell death,which is triggered by the toxic effects due to the accumula-tion of cellular copper ions.Recent studies have shown that cuproptosis is closely linked to various tumors and demonstrated the precise regulation of cuproptosis in the development and progression of tumors.In this review,we briefly describe normal copper homeostasis and metabolism,the occurrence process and mechanism of cuprop-tosis,as well as the regulatory role in the occurrence and development of cancer.Particularly,we emphasize cu-proptosis as a potential pharmacological target for therapeutic interventions in cancer.This review aims to bring new research directions and insights for cancer therapy.关键词
