Meta-analysis of handedness distribution in patients with schizophrenia and autism
摘要
Abstract
Objective:To systematically analyze the distribution characteristics of handedness in patients with schizophrenia and autism, and to explore the correlation between leftward shifts in handedness and abnormal psychiatric development. Methods:A comprehensive literature search was conducted on the relationship between handedness and schizophrenia or autism by using databases such as CNKI,Wanfang Medical Database,VIP Journal Service Platform, and PubMed(1976-2022).Heterogeneity tests and combined result analyses on the included studies were performed through Stata 14 software.Funnel plots and Egger's test were used to assess publication bias, sensitivity analysis to assess the stability of the studies, and meta-regression to identify sources of heterogeneity.Additionally,SPSS 26.0 software was utilized for cluster analysis and chi-square tests to investigate potential genetic differences in the distribution of non-right-handedness among different populations. Results:A total of 29 eligible studies were included, comprising 5 950 schizophrenia patients and 24 725 controls,as well as 94 autism patients and 331 controls. The meta-analysis revealed that the proportion of non-right-handedness in the schizophrenia group(OR=1.64,95%CI=1.26-2.15,and the autism group(OR=2.31,95%CI=1.44-3.72)were significantly higher than those in the control group.Among males, the prevalence of non-right-handedness was notably higher in the schizophrenia group compared to the control group(OR=1.65,95%CI=1.08-2.54).Furthermore,the proportion of non-right-handedness in the autism group was significantly greater than that in both the schizophrenia group and the control group, with the control group exhibiting the lowest proportion of non-right-handedness.Conclusion:A leftward shift in handedness is evident in both schizophrenia and autism, with a more pronounced effect observed in males with schizophrenia. This finding suggests the potential for utilizing handedness as a macro-biological marker for screening psychiatric developmental disorders.关键词
