Abstract

To elucidate the effects of litter additions on litter decomposition,nutrient release,and stoi-chiometric ratios,a 500-day litter decomposition simulation experiment was conducted using the Mason bottle outdoor incubation method with leaf litter from Seriphidium transiliense.The effects of litter addi-tions(2.5,5.0,and 7.5 g)on the mass residual rate of litter,organic carbon(C),nitrogen(N),phospho-rus(P),and their stoichiometric ratios were investigated.The results showed that:(1)The quantity of lit-ter added did not affect decomposition during the early stage(0-320 d),but in the late stage(410-500 d),lower litter additions resulted in faster decomposition rates.The time required for 50%and 95%decompo-sition was shorter for the 2.5 g treatment compared to the 5.0 g and 7.5 g treatments.(2)The C content exhibited continuous release throughout the decomposition process.The N content displayed a pattern of enrichment-release-enrichment,with enrichment occurring during the faster decomposition stages.The P content followed a pattern similar to that of N,indicating that N release facilitated P release,while N enrichment led to P enrichment.(3)The C content of the litter was significantly positively correlated with C∶N,C∶P,and the leaf residue rate at different additions(P<0.05),while the N content of the litter was significantly negatively correlated with C∶N,C∶P,and leaf residue rate(P<0.05).In conclusion,litter decomposition,nutrient release,and stoichiometric ratios were all influenced by the quantity of litter added.The findings of this study contribute to a better understanding of material cycling and the ecological processes involved in litter decomposition.
