Abstract

Objective To establish normal reference ranges of static visual acuity(SVA),dynamic visual acuity(DVA),subjective visual vertical(SVV)and subjective visual horizontal(SVH)based on data from flight trainees.Methods One hundred and forty-six male flight trainees were recruited and underwent SVA,DVA,SVV and SVH tests to derive reference values ranges.Results The mean SVA was(-0.30±0.02)LogMar,for a reference range of≤-0.27 LogMar.The mean DVA differential in different directions was<0.1 LogMar,for a reference range of no more than 0.3 LogMar.The differences between SVA and the DVA during head shaking in any of the four directions were statistically significant(P<0.01).The mean SVV deviation was 0.61°±1.21°,for a reference range between-1.37° and 2.59°,while the mean SVH deviation was 0.40°±1.28°,for a reference range between-1.70° and 2.50°;and the difference between SVV and SVH deviations was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion This study suggests that the correlation between SVA and DVA is related to the direction of head-turning,and that SVV and SVH are not interchangeable in the head-straight position.Evaluating SVA,DVA,SVV and SVH and determing their reference value ranges can provide a theoretical basis for assessing vestibular functions in flight trainees.
