Abstract

The development of cross-border railways in China has opened up the railway transportation corridors between Europe and Southeast Asia.In order to explore the cross-border transportation modes and optimal routes for different categories of goods from Europe to Southeast Asia,a mixed-integer programming model was proposed to analyze the selection of transportation modes and optimal routes,with the goal of minimizing the generalized cost including time cost of goods and transportation cost.The theory of time value of goods was introduced to model the time cost of goods.Then taking the transportation of goods in the import and export trade between Germany and Laos as an example,a case study analysis was conducted,and the CPLEX solver was used to solve the instance model.The research results show that freight rate and the time value of goods affect the selection of cross-border transportation modes and routes from Europe to Southeast Asia.The optimal transportation route for high time-sensitive goods is Hamburg-Alashankou-Xi'an-Kunming-Vientiane via railway transportation.The optimal transportation route for medium and low time-sensitive goods is Mannheim/Noise-Vientiane via sea transportation.Analysis of freight rate adjustments reveals that,when shipping freight rate rises,transportation costs-sensitive and medium time-sensitive goods will undergo changes in transportation modes or routes.The transportation costs-sensitive and low time-sensitive goods have strong robustness in choosing sea transportation.During the process of rising shipping freight rate,railway transportation corridors can adjust freight rate based on the categories of goods to influence the choice of transportation mode for goods.Considering congestion factors,when the freight volume of cross-border railway transportation increases,it will increase the congestion time of transfer nodes,leading to a change in transportation modes and routes.The results can provide reference for the selection of cross-border transportation modes and routes between Europe and Southeast Asia,and also provide reference for the operational optimization of different transportation routes.
