Metallogenic Prediction of the Huangshan Copper-Nickel Metallogenic Belt in the Eastern Tianshan Based on Remote Sensing Images and Geology

Abstract
The remote sensing technology has achieved significant progress in lithological classification,structural interpretation,and alteration extraction,which has laid a robust foundation for remote sensing-based metallogenic analysis.Taking the Huangshan area in eastern Tianshan as an example,this study used the Landsat OLI data,ASTER data,and ASTER GDEM data to extract information of mafic-ultramafic complexes,lineaments,and alteration minerals through band ratio analysis,edge detection,and principal component analysis.A comprehensive metallogenic prediction was then made by integrating the distribution characteristics of known copper-nickel sulfide deposits in the region.Results demonstrate that:(1)The integrated mafic index,constructed using ASTER thermal infrared data,effectively identifies the morphology and distribution of mafic-ultramafic complexes.(2)Major fault structures in the study area were reflected in the GDEM data,and the lineaments extracted using edge detection align with the regional tectonic background,serving as a valuable supplementary to fault analysis in metallogenic analysis.(3)Analysis of the distribution of copper-nickel deposits reveals that favorable mineralization zones are associated with areas where mafic rock masses overlap with alteration anomalies,densely distributed fault and linear structures,and tectonic intersections.Based on these findings,15 prospective metallogenic zones were delineated,four of which exhibit strong concordance with known Cu-Ni sulfide deposits.The other 11 zones were classified into three levels based on their metallogenic potential,which will provide critical technical support for mineral exploration in the region.关键词
