Abstract

This study focused on the aluminum-bearing rock series in different bauxite-forming regions of Henan Province.We investigated the distribution law,influencing factors,enrichment mechanism,and resource potential of associated rare earth elements in the aluminum-bearing rock series of Henan Province by analyzing the chondrite-normalized rare earth elements(REEs),δCe,and La/Y ratios in ore-bearing rock series samples from various bauxite-forming regions.The results show that the associated rare earth elements in the aluminum-bearing rock series of Henan Province exhibit an overall right-inclined distribution pattern,with significant differentiation between light rare earth elements(LREEs)and heavy rare earth elements(HREEs).LREEs are relatively enriched at the bottom of the aluminum-bearing rock series and are strongly enriched under alkaline conditions.Vertical variations in pH are one of the main factors contributing to LREE enrichment,which is also related to the mineral composition of the aluminum-bearing rock series(e.g.,clay minerals,goethite)and weathering-leaching processes.Horizontally,the LREE content gradually decreases from the northwest to the southeast of Henan Province.Vertically,the LREE content decreases from the bottom to the top of the aluminum-bearing rock series.The enrichment mechanism of LREEs is closely related to the bauxite mineralization process,which can be divided into three stages,i.e.,lateritization(differentiation of LREEs and HREEs,with relative depletion of HREEs and enrichment of LREEs),sedimentation(LREEs exist as independent minerals or on the surfaces of clay minerals and iron hydroxides,forming rocks together with bauxite materials),and supergene leaching(activation and migration of LREEs,leading to enrichment at the bottom of the aluminum-bearing rock series).Based on bauxite statistics in Henan Province,the associated light rare earth resources were estimated,with a cumulative identified resource of 598,200 tons and a retained resource of 502,700 tons,indicative of a significant prospecting potential.
