Relationship between adjustment disorder and suicidal ideation in newly employed/enrolled young adults and mediating effects of rumination and negative emotions

Abstract
Aim:To explore the mediating effects of rumination and negative emotions on adjustment disorder and sui-cidal ideation in newly employed/enrolled young adults.Methods:From June to September 2023,Adjustment Disorder-New Module 20,Ruminative Responses Scale,Depression Anxiety-Stress-Scale and Self-Rating Idea of Suicide Scale were as-sessed in newly employed/enrolled young people(aged 18 to 35)within two years of admission.Totally 2 015 effective sam-ples were collected.Pearson correlation analysis was used to explore the correlation between variables,and Bootstrap test was used to explore the mediating effect of rumination and negative emotions.Results:Among 2 015 young adults,36(1.79％)had suicidal ideation.Suicide ideation was higher in the age group 30-35 than that in other age groups,higher in junior high school and below than that in other education levels,and higher in only child than that in non-only child(P＜0.001).There were positive correlations between all dimensions of negative emotion,rumination and adjustment disorder and suicidal ideation in newly employed/enrolled young adults(r=0.086 to 0.873,P＜0.05).Adjustment disorder affected suicidal i-deation of newly employed/enrolled young adults through the effects of rumination and negative emotions,the mediated effect(90％CI)were 0.018(0.007-0.031),0.034(0.023-0.049),0.047(0.033-0.065),and accounted for 15.6％,29.8％,41.3％of the total effect,respectively.Conclusion:Rumination and negative emotions have a partial mediating effect between adjustment disorder and suicidal ideation in newly employed/enrolled young adults.关键词
