Digital Carbon Neutralization:An Empirical Study on the Dual Effects of Artificial Intelligence in Promoting Industrial Carbon Reduction
摘要
Abstract
Based on the inter-provincial Panel data from 2006 to 2023 and the STIRPAT model,this paper uses the spatial Panel data model to explore the mechanism of how artificial intelligence achieves regional reduction of carbon emission through digital empowering.The results indicate that artificial intelligence increases carbon emission due to its consumption of a large amount of electricity in its development and application while it reduces carbon emission by the improvement of factor allocation efficiency in various fields brought about by technological innovation.A further analysis reveals that the wide use of artificial intelligence in industries accelerates industrial optimization and upgrading,which in turn enhances the carbon reduction effect,and effectively offsets the negative impact on environment,and does achieves the ultimate carbon reduction through artificial intelligence empowering.The decomposition results of spatial effects show that artificial intelligence not only promotes industrial optimization and upgrading to achieve emission reduction goals,but also effectively transmits the reduction effect to related regions along the chain,creating conditions for regional carbon reduction goals.关键词
