Ekphrasis and Ecological Ethical Implications in Cormac McCarthy's The Road
摘要
Abstract
Cormac McCarthy's work,The Road,is acclaimed for its profound depiction of the ecological crisis,in which ekphrasis is a key writing technique.McCarthy makes use of ekphrasis to create scenes and constructs a unique narrative space-time through the post-apocalyptic barbaric landscapes, the remnants of industrial civilization, and the symbiotic landscapes of de-anthropocentricity,imbuing the novel with rich ecological ethical implications and aesthetic value. As an important entry point for examining the transformation in McCarthy's later works, ekphrastic narrative resonates with the crisis of the increasingly deteriorating ecological environment in contemporary American South. It skillfully embeds the author's own references to and critiques of the root causes of environmental crises, such as anthropocentrism, technocratic supremacy, and alienated consumerism.关键词
