Abstract

Through chemical analysis,instrumental characterization,pyrolysis experiments,and adsorption experiments,the physicochemical properties and adsorption performance of four types of alkali(sodium hydroxide,potassium hydroxide,magnesium hydroxide,and calcium hydroxide)modified rice straw biochar were compared and studied.The results showed that the four alkaline modifications significantly increased the alkalinity(pH value)of rice straw biochar,and the modifications with sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide increased significantly.Alkaline modification significantly reduced the C and N content of rice straw biochar,increased the O and H content and the number of oxygen-containing functional groups,increased the H/C,O/C,and(O+N)/C atomic ratios,and enhanced polarity.The modification with sodium hydroxide,potassium hydroxide,and calcium hydroxide significantly increased the adsorption capacity of rice straw biochar for methylene blue.The four alkaline modifications significantly increased the adsorption capacity of rice straw biochar for tetracycline.Among them,calcium hydroxide modified rice straw biochar showed the largest increase in adsorption capacity for methylene blue and tetracycline.Calcium hydroxide is the best modifier among the four alkalis,and calcium hydroxide modified rice straw biochar has great potential for application in the adsorption and removal of organic pollutants.
