Abstract

Salt-tolerant bio-based water-retaining agent was synthesized by solution polymerization using biomacromolecule starch(ST)and sodium alginate(SA)as the backbone and acrylamide(AM)and 2-acrylamide-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid(AMPS)as the monomers.The addition of AMPS introduces sulfonic acid groups to the system,resulting in improved salt tolerance of the product.Successful graft polymerization of bio-based and monomers was obtained by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis.The process conditions were optimized using single factor experiments to arrive at the optimal preparation scheme.The performance tests showed that the salt-tolerant bio-based water-retaining agent was reusable and thermally stable,with an absorption capacity of 118 g/g,117 g/g,and 117 g/g in 0.9%NaCl solution,0.9%KCl solution,and 0.9%NH4Cl solution,respectively,at mass fraction.In this study,a salt-tolerant bio-based water-retaining agent was successfully prepared that is low cost,biodegradable and exhibits good absorption ability in a variety of salt solutions.
