Abstract

The Wuchuan mercury mining area in Zunyi City,Guizhou Province,has experienced a certain degree of environmental pollution due to prolonged mining and smelting activities,which has affected the surrounding vegetation to varying extents.In order to identify suitable plant species for ecological restoration and reclamation in the Wuchuan mercury mining area and provide a basis for local mercury-contaminated soil remediation,this study investigated the composition,distribution,and diversity of plants in areas with varying degrees of mercury pollution.Additionally,the enrichment and translocation capacities of dominant plant species with widespread distribution and robust growth were analyzed.The results showed that the study area harbored 51 plant species belonging to 48 genera and 29 families.The plant diversity was negatively correlated with the degree of mercury pollution.Pyracantha fortuneana and Duchesnea indica were widely distributed across areas with different pollution levels,while Medicago lupulina and Anemone vitifolia were more prevalent in heavily polluted sites,such as Sanjiatian and Yinqiangou.Above 4 plants all exhibited strong mercury enrichment and translocation capacities.Among them,Duchesnea indica and Medicago lupulina demonstrated higher mercury enrichment and translocation coefficients,and were able to grow normally in areas with high mercury concentrations.These species are considered potential pioneer plants for the remediation of mercury-contaminated soils.
