Whitening process and application of lithium ore tailings

Abstract
The lithium ore tailings were treated with thiourea dioxide(TD)reduction and oxalic acid complexation process.The effect of different factors on the tailing whitening was investigated by orthogonal experiment.The process conditions of tailing whitening were optimized,and the application properties of whitened tailings in ceramics and C.I.pigment yellow 65(P.Y.65)modification were tested.The orthogonal experiment results show that the influence of the factors on the tailing whiteness in descending order is oxalic acid dosage>complexation time>TD dosage>NaOH/TD molar ratio>temperature>reduction time.Based on the process cost control,the appropriate process conditions for tailing whitening were selected as follows:temperature of 40℃,TD dosage of 0.6%(measured by the mass of tailings,the same below),NaOH/TD molar ratio of 2.0,reduction time of 10 min,oxalic acid dosage of 4%,and complexation time of 60 min.Under these conditions,the content of Fe2O3(w)in the whitened tailings decreases from 1.3%to 0.7%.Additionally,the content of Al2O3 and SiO2 shows negligible changes,and the whiteness is 74.1%.The dry whiteness value of ceramic products fabricated with whitened tailings is 61.2%,which meets the requirement of the first grade in the recommended index of the white porcelain whiteness of GB/T 3532-2022.When the whitened tailing dosage reaches up to 30%(measured by P.Y.65,the same below),the particle size distribution of modified pigment decreases from 360-2 200 nm to 320-1 200 nm,and it concentrates in 500-800 nm.In addition,when the whitened tailing dosage is 15%,the total color aberration between the modified pigment and P.Y.65 is only 0.71.关键词
