Technological Innovation,Industrial Structure and Manufacturing Employment Across China's Provinces

Abstract
Using provincial panel data from China spanning 2005 to 2022,this study employs a fixed-effects model to examine the impact of technological innovation on manufacturing employment.Subsequently,a mediated-effects model is employed to assess the role of industrial structure within the mechanism of this im-pact,followed by the proposal of developmental recommendations.The findings suggest that technological in-novation can significantly promotes manufacturing employment,a conclusion that holds firm even after rigorous robustness checks.Industrial structure is found to act as a partial mediator in the relationship between techno-logical innovation and manufacturing employment,influencing the underlying mechanism.Heterogeneity anal-ysis reveals that the effects of technological innovation on manufacturing employment are more pronounced in the central regions relative to the eastern and western areas.Moreover,the influence of technological innova-tion on manufacturing employment is found to be more significant under stringent government intervention com-pared to conditions of lenient intervention.Future endeavors should concentrate on fostering technological in-novation,optimizing industrial structure,and encouraging the harmonized advancement of technological inno-vation,industrial structure,and manufacturing employment.关键词
