Abstract
This article focuses on the cultural transmission and artistic creation of column bases in traditional dwellings in Tongcheng,Chongyang,and Tongshan,the three counties in southern Hubei Province along the migration routes during the Ming and Qing dynasties(1368-1911),which has yet to be sufficiently studied.Through field inves-tigation and typological,statistical,and compara-tive analyses,the article examines column bases in migration destinations and migration origin areas,respectively.Through analysing their formal fea-tures,period characteristics,decorative themes,and carving techniques,the article reveals that the artistic characteristics of column bases in tradi-tional dwellings in the three counties demonstrate the intercultural fusion associated with migration in the Ming and Qing dynasties.The column bases in Tongcheng County present influence from the column base type of'without waist'in the mi-gration origin areas,whereas the column bases in Tongshan and Chongyang counties are influenced by types either'with waist'or'without waist'.The research findings contribute to the establishment of a theoretical framework for the regional decoration of traditional dwellings.关键词
