Shaking table test on brick masonry farmhouse strengthened by polypropylene grid polymer mortar strips

Abstract
In order to improve the seismic performance of brick masonry farmhouses,and keeping material saving and construction facilitating in mind,a strengthening method of polypropylene grid polymer mortar strips was proposed.A model of existing single-story and double-bay brick masonry farmhouse was seismic strengthened.El Centro wave,LA-Hollywood wave and artificial wave were chosen as input earthquake waves,and shaking table tests were carried out on the strengthened model.The seismic failure pattern,dynamic characteristics and dynamic responses,such as acceleration,displacement,torsion,base shear,as well as shear-gable tip relative displacement hysteretic curves and cumulative dissipation,were analyzed.The results show that with the increase in peak acceleration of the input seismic wave,the natural frequency of the strengthened model decreases and the damping ratio fluctuates.Along the height of the strengthened model,the acceleration amplification factor and the maximum relative displacement both increase.However,when the input peak acceleration is larger than 0.30g,the acceleration amplification factor of the gable centroid in the X direction increases significantly and reaches the peak,and the increase of the maximum relative displacement for the strengthened model in the X direction is non-convergent.The strengthened model is damaged severely but do not collapse under 8 degree rare earthquake,and the maximum drift ratio and the maximum torsion angle are 1/73 and 1/205,respectively.The strengthening method of polypropylene grid polymer mortar strips can improve the deformation capacity and energy dissipation capacity of the brick masonry farmhouse,which makes the brick masonry farmhouse satisfy the seismic fortification requirements of'no damage under frequent earthquake,being repairable under fortification earthquake and no collapse under rare earthquake'.关键词
