摘要

Abstract

To investigate the influence of secondary fractures quantity on the mechanical properties and failure modes of red sandstone samples,uniaxial compression was performed on red sandstone samples with different numbers of secondary fractures.Combined mechanical data and acoustic emission parame-ters acquired from various sample loads,the analysis of the failure process is analyzed.The results show that as the number of fractures increases,the peak strength and elastic modulus of the sample continuous-ly decrease,and the rate of change gradually decreases.The number of secondary fractures has a rela-tively small impact on the strength of the red sandstone specimen than prefabricated main fractures have;The fracture toughness of red sandstone is related to its uniaxial compressive strength.Specimens with higher compressive strength exhibit greater fracture toughness.Prefabricated secondary fractures have a guiding effect on the initiation of fractures in the sample,with new fractures mainly concentrated at the tips of secondary fractures.As the number of secondary fractures increases,the failure mode transits to-wards a tensile-shear composite failure,dominated by shear failure.
