Abstract

Augmented reality is currently one of the faster developing technologies and more and more teachers are using augmented reality to assist their teaching.The aim of this study is to compare the students'learning outcomes by comparing augmented reality teaching activities with traditional teaching activities in teaching product development design courses.The study utilized a quasi-experimental research methodology by dividing the students into control and experimental groups through purposive sampling techniques and using pre-tests and post-tests to assess the students'learning outcomes in terms of subject matter knowledge,design process,and design outcomes.The results showed that there was a difference between posttest scores and pretest scores in the control group on the content knowledge,the design process,and the design outcome.All the aspects showed statistically significant difference with the p-value<0.001.In addition,it has been found that there were differences between posttest scores and pretest scores in the experimental group on content knowledge,the design process,and design outcomes(p-value<0.001).However,when comparing the pre-test scores between the control and the experimental groups,there were not statistically significant difference,which could be assumed that the 2 groups have similar levels of skills measured at the beginning of the experimental.On the other hand,the posttest scores of the experimental group found statistically significant different when comparing to the control group(p-value<0.001)in all skills.The results of the study indicate that augmented reality technology has a positive impact on student learning outcomes.
