Exploration on Hydrogen as a Transitioning Tool in Coal Regions:Model Formation and Application Effect in Shanxi Province

Abstract
Coal regions are confronted with greater pressures from carbon reduction in comparison with other areas in order to securely a-chieve the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.Therefore,selection of suitable transitioning tools and effective transformation effects are not only crucial for these regions but also hold significant pilot value for the national energy transition.This study takes Shanxi,a key coal-producing province in China,as an example to analyze implementation strategies and feasible pathways for green and low-carbon transformation in coal-dependent regions by examining local conditions,relevant data,and practical cases.Given the limited window period of"clean utilization"for coal,the stringent assessment pressures imposed on local governments,as well as the survival needs of energy-intensive enterprises,Shanxi has chosen hydrogen as a key transitional tool for energy transformation.Through the coordinated efforts and mutual influence of local enterprises and governments at various levels,hydrogen has been scaled up and ap-plied in sectors such as transportation and the steel industry.The research findings suggest that a strategic distinction between gray hy-drogen and green hydrogen is necessary and hydrogen,as a phased transitioning tool,can balance energy transition with economic sta-bility,making it a viable option for the effective transformation of coal regions.关键词
