Abstract

Flexible Antenna Arrays(FAA)exhibit characteristics such as rotatability,bendability,and foldability,making them widely applied in flexible radio systems to achieve customized radiation patterns.It is illustrated that FAA with dynamically adjustable surface configurations can improve the communication performance of omnidirectional and directional antenna patterns as well as the Cramér-Rao Bound(CRB)of the channel angle.To this end,a mathematical model is proposed to analyze the impact of changes in antenna positions and orientations on the transition of the array from a planar to a rotational state.Furthermore,an algorithm is developed to jointly optimize the communication beamformer and the radar signal covariance matrix under power constraints.The objective of this algorithm is to minimize the CRB of channel angle estimation while ensuring that communication users meet predefined rate requirements.Simulation results indicate that,at low transmission power,the directional mode achieves the most significant performance improvement compared to a uniform linear array,with an enhancement of approximately 40%.Under high power conditions,the performance improvements of the directional and omnidirectional modes are 23%and 15%,respectively.
