The Preventive and Therapeutic Effects and Mechanisms of Antimicrobial Peptides on Mastitis in Dairy Cows

Abstract
Mastitis(inflammation in mammary gland)caused by infectious pathogens seriously affects the health of dairy cows,which will reduce the production performance of dairy cows and bring huge economic losses.Traditional antibiotic treatment will lead to problems such as antibiotic residues and microbial resistance,and threaten public health and safety.Antimicrobial peptides,as small naturally occurring peptides,can play an anti-mastitis role as new biological agents and immunotherapeutic agents due to their broad-spectrum antibacterial activity,rapid bactericidal ability,low toxicity and cell selectivity.In this paper,the sources,biological effects and the mechanism of antimicrobial peptides in the treatment of cow mastitis were reviewed.The mechanism of antimicrobial peptides inhibiting pathogens through membrane targeted and non membrane targeted mechanisms was mainly elaborated,which provided a theoretical basis for antimicrobial peptides as an alternative to antibiotics in the treatment of cow mastitis.关键词
