Abstract

Polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)hydrogels are widely used in biomedical field due to their high biocom-patibility.Sodium alginate has good biocompatibility and good complementarity with PVA.PVA/SA hydrogels were prepared by simple blending PVA and sodium alginate with the same cyclic freezing and thawing method as PVA hydrogels.The mechanical properties,shape memory,swelling properties and hydrophilic properties of the two hydrogels were tested and characterized.The results show that the mechanical and memory properties of PVA/SA hydrogel are better than those of PVA hydrogel with the same proportion.The comprehensive properties of PVA/SA hydrogel with 15%mass ratio are best,the hydrophilic balance rate is 61.3%,the swelling rate is 113.34%,the memory recovery rate is 96.7%,and the breaking stress is 2.69 MPa.The mechanical and shape memory properties of the two hydrogel composite fabrics are higher than those of the hydrogel,and the PVA/SA hydrogel composite fabric has the best performance.The soft manipulator with light weight,small vol-ume,high speed,low energy consumption and low cost can be made by filling PVA/SA composite hydrogel into warp knitted mesh fabric,which provides a new method for grasping light objects in harsh environment.
