Abstract

The marine shale reservoir of the Silurian Shiniulan Formation in the southeastern Sichuan Basin has considerable potential for oil and gas exploration in Sichuan Basin,due to the presence of a near-surface gas layer.However,the pore structure of the reservoir has rarely been studied.In this work,the pore structure characteristics of the Shiniulan Formation shale are exampled using whole rock X-ray diffraction,argon ion polishing scanning electron microscopy,low-temperature nitrogen adsorption,and nuclear magnetic resonance analysis.The research results show that:(1)The pore types of the Shiniulan shale reservoir are mainly organic and inorganic,with a few micro-fractures,and the pore morphology consists mainly of slit pores,ink-bottle pores;and wedge pores.(2)The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller specific surface area of the reservoir is 5.17~16.67 m2/g,and the pore volume is(2.55~52.59)×10-3 cm3/g,which is mainly controlled by micropores and mesopores.(3)The total organic matter content(TOC)is the main factor controlling the pore structure of the Shiniulan Formation shale reservoir.Mineral content indirectly controls the pore structure of the reservoir by affecting the enrichment of organic matter.The development of clay minerals is conducive to the adsorption of organic matter,and excessive input of brittle minerals will dilute the enrichment of organic matter.(4)The advantageous lithofacies type is clay shale,and its pore morphology and pore size distribution are similar to the Wufeng-Longmaxi Formation and Dalong Formation shale reservoirs,implying its good exploration potential.The area with high TOC content is a key exploration area for shale gas in the near future.These research results provide reference for the evaluation of shale gas exploration potential in the Shiniulan Formation in the southeastern Sichuan Basin.
