Differences and mechanisms in metabolites among different types of Cunninghamia lanceolata

Abstract
To explore the mechanisms underlying the characteristic differences in wood properties among different types of Cunninghamia lanceolata,this study compared the metabolites and their content among iron-heart C.lanceolata(TX),red-heart C.lanceolata(HX),and fast-growing C.lanceolata(SS).Non-targeted metabolomics was employed to determine the metabolite composition and abundance of TX,HX,and SS.Enrichment analysis and multivariate analysis were performed to annotate,identify,and compare the metabolites.The results of the principal component analysis and correlation analysis showed that the metabolites of TX had significant differences from those of HX and SS,while the metabolite composition and abundance had similarities between HX and SS.A total of 1 432(TX vs HX),1 121(TX vs SS),and 1 087(HX vs SS)differential metabolites were identified,among which 168 differential metabolites were common.The KEGG enrichment analysis results showed that the differential metabolites were enriched in pathways such as flavonoid biosynthesis,arachidonic acid metabolism,and diterpenoid biosynthesis.The differential metabolites of TX vs HX and TX vs SS were significantly enriched in the flavonoid biosynthesis pathway.Retinyl β-glucuronide and 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3,6-dimethoxy-8,8-dimethyl-4H,8H-benzo[1,2-b:3,4-b′]-dihydropyran-4-one were significantly upregulated in TX vs HX and TX vs SS.Retinyl β-glucuronide and 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3,6-dimethoxy-8,8-dimethyl-4H,8H-benzo[1,2-b:3,4-b′]-dihydropyran-4-one may be important metabolites that distinguish the wood material of TX from other types of C.lanceolata.关键词
