Impact of teachers'ethical leadership on students'social behavior:chain mediating effect of peer influence and autonomous motivation

Abstract
Objective To explore the impact of teachers'ethical leadership on students'social behavior,and investigate the mediating effects of peer influence and autonomous motivation.Methods Based on the China Education Panel Survey(CEPS),questionnaire data from middle school students in the 2014-2015 academic year were selected.A total of 6 926 valid samples were obtained,and the relevant data were statistically analyzed.Results There was a significant positive correlation between teachers'ethical leadership,students'social behavior,peer influence,and autonomous motivation.The direct effect of teachers'ethical leadership on students'social behavior was significant(β=0.237,P<0.001).The mediation effect consisted of three paths:ethical leadership→peer influence→social behavior,ethical leadership→autonomous motivation→social behavior,and ethical leadership →peer influence→autonomous motivation→social behavior.The mediating effects of the three paths were significant(the Bootstrap 95%CI of the effect values did not include 0).Conclusion Teachers'ethical leadership can have a direct impact on students'social behavior,and an indirect impact on students'social behavior through independent mediation of peer influence and autonomous motivation,as well as the chain mediation effect of both.关键词
