Abstract
Objective:To investigate the root and canal morphology of the maxillary second molars in Chinese by CBCT.Methods:The patients,who took CBCT in the Department of Center,School of Stomatology,Wuhan University were selected according to inclusion criteria.A retrospective study and analysis of the images was conducted.Results:The number of roots in the maxillary second molars ranged from 1 to 5,while 3-root molars with the highest prevalence,81.13%.The inci-dences of single and fused roots were higher in females than in males(P＜0.05).The three-canal type was the most common with a rate of 72.02%.Also,the incidences of single and fused root canals were greater in females than in males(P＜0.05).There was a greater occurrence of MB2 in males than females,with Type Ⅱ and Type Ⅳ being the predominant types.No sig-nificant difference was observed in the two types with respect to tooth position or gender.The symmetry rate of the root and canal morphology between the left and right sides was 60.77%.Gender and age had an interactive effect on the incidence of root fusion and MB2.Conclusion:The variation of the maxillary second molars was great.A thorough understanding of its an-atomical structure can significantly improve the success rate of root canal treatment for the maxillary second molars,along with the use of CBCT and microscope.关键词
