The Structure and Roles of Forest Products Trade Network among the APFNet Economies

Abstract
⑴ Background——The Asia-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation(APFNet)has now become a representative international forest and grass cooperation organization.Forest prod-ucts trade is an important part of forest economic functions,but the international trade structure of forest products is becoming more and more complex.At present,the research on forest products trade network mainly focuses on two aspects:one is the macro trend,characteristic changes and forming factors of global forest products trade,the other is the characteristics and influencing factors of forest products trade in specific countries or regions,while the research on forest products trade structure among the APFNet is less. ⑵ Methods——Based on the social network analysis method,this paper firstly constructed the forest prod-ucts trade network among the APFNet economies.Then,the overall situation and individual node situation of the forest products trade among the APFNet economies were investigated by using the global network density analy-sis,the QAP analysis and individual network degree analysis.The research data were the related data of the for-est products trade of the 20 APFNet economies from 2010 to 2022. ⑶ Results——First,the trade links in forest products within the APFNet are very close,and the trade ac-tivities of forest products are increasingly active and in-depth,and the trade volume is constantly growing.How-ever,differences in trade levels persist in the long term.Second,the differences in the social and economic structure,natural resource endowment and social and technical level of the APFNet economies have promoted the occurrence and growth of forest products trade.Third,within the APFNet,the signing of free trade agreements can promote the development of forest products trade,and the relative distance and common official languages have very limited impact on the forest products trade.Fourth,the trade structure of forest products within the APFNet is basically stable,with neighboring economic nodes as the main body.The influence gap between the semi-central economic nodes and the peripheral economic nodes is reduced,showing an obvious"core-peripher-y"structure.Fifth,there are five different types of roles in the forest products trade networks:"double-high","export-oriented","import-oriented","double-low"and"non-contact".Most economies adopt import-orien-ted strategies,while economies with greater influence tend to adopt export-oriented strategies. ⑷ Conclusions and Discussions——Based on the above research conclusions,the following policy sug-gestions are proposed:First,facilitate the channels of trade circulation and release the trade potential of forest products.Give full play to the core role and influence of the central economies,actively establish regional forest products free trade system,and enhance standardization coordination.Second,deepen cooperation among the APFNet economies,strengthen the building of forest products trade networks,and promote the high-quality growth of forest products trade.Continue to attract more APEC members and other economies in the Asia-Pacific region to join,and establish a dialogue and coordination mechanism on forest products trade.Third,optimize the layout of industrial structure and build a high-level and high-quality international industry chain division network for forest products.Help the developing economies and encourage the developed economies to increase technologi-cal innovation.Fourth,promote the construction of digital infrastructure and use digitalization to empower the de-velopment of forest products trade networks.Strengthen the development of digital platforms and promote inter-linked trade cooperation.关键词
