Abstract
Great Expectations constructs different cultures and characters through natural spaces,urban spaces,private spaces,and psychological spaces:natural spaces represented by Pip's hometown shape simple and kind folk customs;The urban space represented by London where Pip pursued a bright future refers to the corrupt,unfriendly,and lustful human nature;The private space helps shape the distinct personalities of the characters living inside,while the psychological space takes an adult perspective on Pip's turbulent life and takes readers to witness the social landscape of England in the Victorian era.In the end,Pip left the city and returned to his hometown,the private space of the old house which isolated the character burned down,followed by Pip's psychological development which reflects Dickens'pursuit of truth,goodness,and beauty,as well as his belief that truth,goodness,and beauty must overcome falsehood and ugliness.关键词
