Parameter Calibration of Paddy Loam in the Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River Based on Discrete Element Method

Abstract
To analyse the interaction between the paddy loam and the agricultural machinery,the accurate acquirement of the physical and contact parameters of the paddy loam is very important.Based on soil accumulation tests,the angle of repose was taken as the response value,and the discrete element method(DEM)was used to calibrate the paddy loam parameters in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River on the basis of the Hertz-Mindlin with JKR(Johnson-Kendall-Roberts)contact model.Firstly,we obtained the quantitative relationship between the angle of repose(AoR)and the moisture content by soil accumulation tests.Four representative accumulation shapes were determined from the accumula-tion results of loam with different moisture contents.Since the shape of paddy loam accumulation was relatively special,we only performed local fit for the left and right sides by the cubic polynomial method to calculate the angle of repose.Then,based on the internal factors of the paddy loam in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and the preliminary test,the high and low values of 9 parameters of its discrete element model(DEM)were confirmed.In accordance with the Plackett-Burman experiment,the analysis of variance was performed,we find that the shear modulus of the loam,the coefficient of rolling friction among the loam particles,the coefficient of loam-stainless steel static friction,and the surface energy of JKR have obvious effects on the AoR.Secondly,a quadratic polynomial regression model of the AoR with four significant parameters was established through the Box-Behnken test design(BBD)based on the principle of response surface method(RSM),and the target response value was predicted through the quadratic polynomial regression model,the optimal parameters.According to the optimal parameters,the DEM test on the AoR of loam are carried out,the relative deviation between the numerical result(45.4°)and the experimental result(44.6°)was 1.79%.Finally,the AoRs of loam with different moisture contents of 44.4%and 48.7%selected are simulated,and the relative devia-tions of the results of the simulation and the test were 2.8%and 7.14%,respectively,which meant that the regression model could be used to predict the related intrinsic parameters and contact parameters of paddy loam DEM model in the middle area of the Yangtze River based on the moisture content or AoR of loam.关键词
