Abstract

Population mobility and migration represent the most prominent demographic phenomenon in China's industrialization and urbanization process.The vast floating population has become the mainstay of the urban population,and vocational skills training is a crucial measure to facilitate the transition of the labor force from traditional agriculture to industry and services.Based on the survey data from the 2020"China Family Panel Studies(CFPS)",this study investigates the impact of vocational skills training on the income of the floating population and its underlying mechanisms by constructing a measurement model.The findings reveal that vocational skills training and technical skills training significantly enhance the income of the floating population,whereas training in literature,philosophy,arts,and ideological and political education has no notable impact on income.The mediating factors through which vocational skills training influences income include improvements in internet usage,job satisfaction,mental health,and individual efficacy among the floating population.Male,rural-registered,and married floating population are more significantly affected by vocational skills training.To promote the role of vocational skills training in the construction of new-type urbanization,it is essential to establish and improve government public policies and systems,refine training contents,broaden training methods,enhance urban inclusivity,and develop social care initiatives.
