Abstract

Anaerobic digestion(AD)is an effective method for methane production from corn stover,and a suitable temperature can enhance methane yield.Batch AD experiments were conducted using corn stover to investigate the effects of different temperatures(32,37,42,47,52℃)on methane potential and kinetic characteristics.The results showed that as the AD temperature incre-ased,the cumulative methane yield of corn stover exhibited an initial increase followed by a decrease,reaching the highest value at 47℃,which was 187.6 mL·g-1.The cumulative methane production data of corn stover AD were fitted using the Gompertz and two-stage kinetic models for kinetic analysis.The AD of corn stover was found to have distinct characteristics of two stages:a fast gas production phase and a slow gas production phase.With the increase in AD temperature,the proportion of methane production in the fast gas production phase in the total gas production rate showed an upward trend,with the most extended duration of the fast methane production phase and the highest methane yield observed at 47℃,reaching 137.9 mL·g-1 over 3.5 days.Therefore,consid-ering the methane potential and kinetic characteristics,the AD temperature of 47℃was most favorable for the AD of corn stover for methane production.
