Comparison of productivity and water conservation capacity between Michelia fujianensis and Cunninghamia lanceolata plantations

摘要

Abstract

[Purpose]The differences in productivity and water conservation capacity were compared between 20-year-old Michelia fujianensis and Chinese fir(Cunninghamia lanceolata)plantations,so as to provide a basis for the selection of suitable replacement tree species for successive-rotation Chinese fir cutover land.[Method]The differences in growth,biomass and annual net produc-tivity were compared between 20-year-old Michelia fujianensis and Chinese fir plantations,which were planted in successive-rotation Chinese fir cutover land in Shunchang County,Fujian Province.The indoor immersion method and cutting ring method were used to determine the water conservation capacity of the aboveground part and soil of the plantations,respectively.[Result]The stand vol-ume and mean annual increment of stand volume of Michelia fujianensis plantation were 299.07 m3·hm-2 and 14.954 m3·hm-2·a-1,respectively,which were both 0.91%lower than those of the Chinese fir plantation,showing insignificant differences between the two plantations.The average annual net productivity of the tree layer of Michelia fujianensis plantation was 9.906 t·hm-2·a-1,which was 29.81%higher than that of the Chinese fir plantation with significant difference.The maximum water-holding capacity and effective interception capacity of the aboveground part of Michelia fujianensis plantation were 30.25%and 36.75%higher than those of the Chinese fir plantation,respectively,with significant differences.The maximum water-holding capacity and effective intercep-tion capacity of the 0-60 cm soil layer were 3 213.93 and 1 652.50 t·hm-2,which were 4.15%and 5.01%higher than those of the Chinese fir plantation,respectively,and the maximum water-holding capacity and effective interception capacity of the stand were 4.75%and 5.56%higher than those of the Chinese fir plantation,respectively,both with insignificant differences.[Conclusion]The productivity and water conservation capacity of the Michelia fujianensis plantation were higher than those of the Chinese fir plan-tation,making it suitable for promotion and application in Nanping,Fujian Province.
