Abstract

In order to study the effects of returning farmland to forest on the physicochemical proper-ties of soil in western Laoyeling forest area,soil under the forest in western Laoyeling forest area with six different afforestation durations of 1 year,5 years,10 years,15 years,20 years,and 25 years was used as the research object,and the arable land(SF)and the natural secondary forest land(NF)within the same area were used as the control sample plots,and the physical and chemical properties of the soil under the forest in the two soil horizons after returning farmland to forest(0-20,20-40 cm)were measured.The results showed that:the organic matter of the two soil layers increased by 105%and 67%in 25 years compared with 1 year.The organic matter content of afforested land tended to be higher than that of the NF,which increased by 26.99 g/kg and 30.41 g/kg compared with the SF 2 soil layer,indicating that returning farmland to forest had a positive effect on the accumulation of soil organic matter,the pH of the two soil layers decreased from 5.94 and 6.43 to 5.46 and 5.30 in 25 years compared with 1 year,indicating that returning farmland to forest could improve acidified soil,soil bulk weight(1.41 g/cm2)of SF was significantly higher than that of all forested land,and total soil porosity and capillary porosity were opposite to that,indicating that returning farmland to forest could effectively improve soil bulk weight and pore structure,large aggregates of>2 mm particle size in 2 soil horizons in 25 years were increased by 30.52%and 13.43%compared with those in 1 year,the 2 MWD increased by 79.07%and 32.35%,GMD increased by 25.49%and 10.42%,and MWSSA decreased by 30.61%and 12.16%in the two soil layers in 25 years,indicating that returning farm-land to forest could obviously improve the physical properties of soil in afforested land.The results of the study showed that returning farmland to forest can effectively improve soil physical and chemical properties.
