Abstract
Objective To investigate the effect of open reduction and Kirschner wire fixation for treatment of the first metacarpal bone base fracture and dislocation(Bennett fracture).Methods A total of 16 patients with Bennett frac-tures were treated by open reduction and Kirschner wire fixation.Fracutre healing situation,pain VAS,postoperative complications were recorded.The fracture reduction quality was assessed with Kjaer-Petersen method,and thumb mo-tor function was evaluated by Cannon method.Results All patients were followed up for 6～13(9.3±2.3)months.Fracture callus formed within 4～6 weeks,and fracture healed in 2～3 months postoperation.No complications such as the infection of pin tract or incision,malunion and first metacarpal bone re-dislocation were occurred.Two cases suf-fered from Kirschner wire breakage and the partial pin remained in the bone,it was not processed because it did not af-fect the movement.One case did exercise without following the doctor's advice,which led to the limit of thumb abduc-tion.According to the evaluation of Kjaer-Petersen method,the excellent and good rate of fracture reduction quality was 15/16.The pain VAS was 1～4(2.5±0.3)points at 3 months postoperation.At last follow-up,the excellent-good rate of thumb motor function evaluated by Cannon method was 15/16.Conclusions Open reduction and Kirschner wire fix-ation for Bennett fracture has the advantages of less trauma,firm fixation,and good recovery of thumb function.关键词
