Abstract

Based on the capillary phenomenon of soil,specimens with different deposition directions are pre-pared.The dynamic characteristics of sandy soil are then studied.The influence of deposition direction and ef-fective consolidation stress on dynamic parameters and their regularities are investigated.The results show that under the same effective consolidation stress,the dynamic shear modulus of the specimen in the deposition direc-tion changes significantly.When the effective consolidation stress is 100 kPa,200 kPa,and 300 kPa,the re-duction rates of the maximum dynamic shear modulus at deposition directions of 0° and 60° are 7.83%,5.80%,and 13.62%respectively.The dynamic shear modulus first decreases and then increases with the increase of the deposition direction,reaching the lowest value at around 60°.At low effective consolidation stress,the deposi-tion direction has a more obvious influence on the damping ratio of the specimen.However,at high effective con-solidation stress,this influence can be ignored.When the most unfavorable failure surface(45°+φ/2)(where α is the internal friction angle)of the specimen is consistent with the deposition direction,it has the smallest dy-namic shear modulus.A fitting formula for the maximum dynamic shear modulus and deposition direction of sandy soil is established,providing a scientific basis for predicting the dynamic performance of sandy soil.
