Abstract

[Objective]Celery(Apium graveolens L.),a biennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Apia-ceae family,is native to marshy regions along the Mediterranean coastline and exhibits sensitivity to drought conditions.The objective of this study is to develop a methodology for early identification of drought tolerance in celery,and to screen and identify drought-tolerant celery germplasm resources.[Method]A total of 51 celery germplasm resources from both domestic and foreign,were selected and subjected to control and drought stress treatments.Fourteen indices were measured,including seven growth parameters:plant height,spread,fresh weights of above-ground and underground parts,and dry weights of above-ground and underground sections,and the root-to-shoot ratio,as well as seven physi-ological indicators:chlorophyll content,malondialdehyde,proline,soluble proteins,SOD,POD,and CAT.[Result]The findings revealed varying degrees of responsiveness to drought stress among differ-ent celery varieties.Different celery germplasms exhibit varying degrees of response to drought stress.A comprehensive evaluation of their drought tolerance was conducted utilizing the drought damage index,membership function,principal component analysis,and cluster analysis.A comprehensive evaluation method for drought tolerance of celery was established,and drought tolerant germplasm materi-als such as Huangnenxiqin parsley,Thaiguobaihuangqin,Bolicuiqin and Jinyunbaoqin were selected.[Conclusion]This study evaluated the drought tolerance of different germplasm resources of celery,screened the celery resources with strong drought tolerance,and laid a foundation for the breeding and production of drought-tolerant varieties.
