Applicability of counterintuitive dynamics test among university students majoring in physics(education)in China

Abstract
The counterintuitive dynamics test(CIDT)is an instrument designed to evaluate students'ability to solve counterintuitive dynamics problems.This study involved 302 university students majoring in physics(education)from a provincial university in Shandong as subjects,comprehensively evaluated the psychometric characteristics of the CIDT utilizing Winsteps software based on the Rasch model.The re-search results are as follows.(1)CIDT satisfies the assumptions of unidimensionality.(2)The overall quality of CIDT is good.Despite a slightly lower overall difficulty,a high degree of fit between the observed data and the Rasch model,and both separation and reliability have reached satisfactory levels.(3)The dis-tribution of items difficulty is broad and roughly uniform.The difficulty of items roughly matches the abilities of the subjects,and the distribution of item difficulty covers the ability range of most subjects well.(4)The fit between observed data of most items and the Rasch model is good or acceptable,but a few items(e.g.,items 3,26,23,28)exhibit poor fit with the model and show a weak correlation with the overall measurement objectives.Overall,the CIDT demonstrates good psychometric properties and is generally suitable as an instrument for assessing the problem-solving level of counterintuitive dynamics among university students majoring in physics(education)in China.关键词
