Chinese version of the 21-item Challenges to Stopping Smoking Scale and its reliability and validity test

Abstract
Objective:To translate the 21-item Challenges to Stopping Smoking Scale(CSS-21)into Chinese,and to test its validity and reliability.Methods:The Chinese version of CSS-21 was formed through translation,back translation and cultural adaptation.A total of 506 smokers or ex-smokers treated in hospitals from December 2023 to April 2024 were selected as the research subjects to test the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of CSS-21.Results:The Chinese version of CSS-21 included two dimensions,internal challenge and external challenge,with a total of 21 items.The scale-level content validity index(S-CVI)was 0.941.And the item-level content validity index(I-CVI)ranged from 0.820 to 1.000.Exploratory factor analysis extracted two common factors with eigenvalue＞1.And the cumulative contribution rate of variance was 61.519％.Confirmatory factor analysis showed that the model fit well.The Cronbach's α coefficient of the scale was 0.939.And the retest reliability was 0.880.Conclusions:The Chinese version CSS-21 had good reliability and validity.It could help to identify the internal and external challenges faced by individuals in the process of stopping smoking,so as to develop more personalized and effective stopping smoking intervention strategies.关键词
