The cognitive and neural mechanisms underlying the effects of food-specific inhibition training on eating behaviors

Abstract
The issue of obesity poses significant adverse effects on the physical and mental health of the Chinese population.Intervening in eating behaviors is crucial for reducing overeating and addressing obesity.Unlike traditional inhibitory control training,which has limited effects on eating behaviors,food-specific inhibitory control training demonstrates remarkable efficacy.However,its underlying mechanisms remain unclear.This study aims to address this gap by conducting four studies comprising eight experiments.Specifically,Studies 1 and 2 explore whether food-specific inhibitory control training can alter eating behaviors by updating food values,enhancing the value of"Go"foods while reducing the value of"No-Go"foods.Studies 3 and 4 investigate whether the training can change eating behaviors by forming automatic response/inhibition associations,linking"Go"foods to automatic responses and"No-Go"foods to automatic inhibition.This study seeks to elucidate the mechanisms underlying food-specific inhibitory control training and offers new perspectives for the intervention and treatment of overeating and obesity in China.关键词
