Abstract
From a synchronic perspective,the pronunciation of first-division labial-velar characters in the Guo rhyme group in Suining dialect can be categorized into two types:[uʌ]and[ʌ].The pronunciations of characters belonging to the Bang(帮)and Duan(端)initial groups are relatively consistent,while those of the Jian(见)initial group exhibit word-specific distribution patterns,involving both[ʌ]and[uʌ]pronunciations.This study initiates an analysis from the pronunciation of the polyphonic character"和"and,in conjunction with phonetic manifestations in Jiang-Huai dialects,posits that three evolutionary strata underlie the pronunciation of first-division labial-velar characters in the Guo rhyme group in Suining dialect.These strata respectively originate from the raising of the main vowel([*ua]＞[uʌ]),the fusion of initial and medial([*ua]＞[uʌ]＞[ʌ]),and lexical diffusion([o]＞[ʌ]).关键词
