Abstract

Objective:To explore the relationship between individual-level and class-level victimization and the men-tal health of vocational high school students.Methods:A survey was conducted with 882 students from 32 classes in two vocational high schools in Shanghai.Standardized measures included the peer victimization scale,the 9-item center for epi-demiological studies depression scale,and the single-item life satisfaction questionnaire.Results:(1)Both individual-level and class-level victimization showed significant positive correlations with depressive symptoms and negative correla-tions with life satisfaction.(2)Class-level victimization moderated the association between individual victimization and mental health outcomes among vocational high school students.Severe victims in low-victimization classes reported worse mental health than counterparts in high-victimization classes.Conclusion:The healthy context paradox is validated in vo-cational high school students.Both individual and class-level victimization exert negative effects on mental health of voca-tional high school students.
