Is Procrastination a Strange Cycle?——The Complex Dynamic Relationship between Procrastination Behavior and Anxiety among College Students

Abstract
Objective:To investigate the dynamic relationship between procrastination behavior and anxiety.Methods:A sample of 294 college students were followed intensively for 10 consecutive days using the general procrastination scale,(GPS)and the generalized anxiety disorder-7(GAD-7).Results:(1)At the within-person level,pre-test anxiety(ANt-1)among college students positively predicted post-test procrastination behavior(PRBt)(β=0.10,P＜0.05),while pre-test pro-crastination behavior(PRBt-1)positively predicted post-test anxiety(ANt)(β=0.07,P＜0.05);(2)At the between-person level,pre-test anxiety(ANt-1)positively predicted post-test procrastination behavior(PRBt)among college students(β=0.41,P＜0.05),but pre-test procrastination behavior(PRBt-1)did not predict post-test anxiety(ANt)(β=0.31,P＞0.05).Con-clusion:For college students,anxiety may be an antecedent variable of procrastination behavior;for individual college stu-dents,there may be a cyclical model relationship between procrastination behavior and anxiety.关键词
