Abstract

Objective:To investigate the longitudinal relationship between parent-child attachment security and chil-dren's emotional regulation difficulties in middle childhood.Methods:Follow-up surveys were conducted with 536 stu-dents in upper-elementary school who completed questionnaires including the Chinese version of kerns security scale and DERS-16 at three measurement points over one year,and a cross-lagged model was established for data analyses.Results:(①Emotional regulation difficulties were found to be significantly and negatively correlated with parent-child attachment se-curity across all three measurement points.②The cross-lagged panel analysis revealed that,after controlling for gender and age,there was a bidirectionally predictive effect between parent-child attachment security and emotional regulation difficul-ties.③The cross-lagged effects between parent-child attachment security and children's emotional regulation difficulties did not significantly differ by gender.Conclusion:The longitudinal relationship between parent-child attachment security and emotional regulation difficulties in elementary school years was reciprocal that was consistent across genders.
