Harsh Parenting and Adolescents'Psychological Distress:The Mediating Effect of Psychological Inflexibility and Moderating Role of Connectedness to Nature

Abstract
Objective:To explore the relationship between harsh parenting and adolescent psychological distress,with a focus on examining the mediating role of psychological inflexibility and the protective effect of connectedness to nature in this relationship.Methods:A total of 754 middle school students were surveyed using measures including the harsh parent-ing questionnaire,cognitive fusion questionnaire,acceptance and action questionnaire,connectedness to nature question-naire,and depression-anxiety-stress scale.Results:①Harsh parenting,psychological inflexibility,and psychological dis-tress were significantly positively correlated.②Harsh parenting not only directly and positively predicted adolescent psy-chological distress but also indirectly predicted it through the mediating role of psychological inflexibility.③ The direct and mediating effects of harsh parenting on adolescent psychological distress could be moderated by connectedness to na-ture,with these effects being greater in adolescents with lower levels of connectedness to nature.Conclusion:Psychologi-cal inflexibility mediates the relationship between harsh parenting and adolescent psychological distress,while connected-ness to nature serves as a protective factor against the development of psychological inflexibility and psychological distress resulting from harsh parenting.关键词
