Abstract

Objective:To explore the influence of grandparenting on children's self-supporting behavior and the moder-ating effect of only child status.Methods:22799 children aged from 3 to 6 years old and 21838 children aged from 6 to 12 years old were investigated with the self-supporting behavior questionnaire for 3~6 years old children and the self-supporting behavior questionnaire for 6~12 years old children,respectively.Results:(1)Grandparenting had a significant negative predictive effect on the self-supporting behavior of children aged 3~6 years,and only child status moderated the relationship between grandparenting and daily self-supporting and social self-supporting(safety awareness)of 3~6 years old children;(2)Grandparenting significantly negatively predicted the self-supporting behavior of children aged 6~12 years,and only child status moderated the relationship between grandparenting and self-supporting behavior,general self-supporting,and self-determination of 6~12 years old children.Conclusion:Grandparenting has a significant negative im-pact on children's self-supporting behavior,which is moderated by only child status.
