The Effect of National Identity on Depression Among College Students:The Mediation of Basic Psychological Needs Satisfaction

Abstract
Objective:To investigate the effects of national identity on depression among college students and the medi-ating effects of basic psychological needs satisfaction.Methods:A total of 742 college students was recruited to complete the DASS-21 depression subscale,the basic psychological needs scale,and the national identity scale.Results:(1)Na-tional identity was significantly negatively associated with depression and significantly positively associated with compe-tence need satisfaction,autonomy need satisfaction,and relatedness need satisfaction.(2)The mediation model test showed that the relationship between national identity and depression were significantly mediated by competence need satisfaction,autonomy need satisfaction,and relatedness need satisfaction.Conclusion:This study revealed the mechanism of national identity affecting college students'depression,which can provide empirical evidence for education of national identity and relevant intervention practice of college students'mental health.关键词
