Psychometric Properties of the Short Version of the Conformity to Masculine Norms Inventory in Chinese Male Population

Abstract
Objective:To revise the Chinese version of the 30-item conformity to masculine norms inventory(CMNI-30)and examine its reliability and validity among Chinese male populations.Methods:A total of 1,215 Chinese males com-pleted the Chinese version of the CMNI-30.The gender role conflict scale short form,gender role discrepancy and discrep-ancy stress scale,the gender role concept,and the emotional empathy scale were used as criterion measures.A retest was conducted one month later with 57 of the participants.Results:①The revised CMNI-30 demonstrated good item discrimi-nation across all items;②Exploratory factor analysis yielded a 30-item Chinese-revised version with 10 factors,with a cu-mulative variance contribution rate of 74.75％for these 10 factors;③Confirmatory factor analysis revealed good fit indices for the 10-factor structure(x2/df=1.60,CFI=0.970,TLI=0.964,RMSEA=0.035,SRMR=0.040);④The CMNI-30 was sig-nificantly correlated with the criterion measures,with correlation coefficients ranging from-0.23～0.54;⑤Reliability analy-sis showed that the Cronbach's α coefficients for the overall scale and its dimensions ranged from 0.73～0.89,and test-retest reliabilities between 0.71～0.96.Conclusion:The Chinese version of the CMNI-30 exhibits good psychometric prop-erties and can be used as an effective tool for measuring conformity to masculine norms among Chinese males.关键词
