Reliability and Validity of Defending Behaviors Scale Among Chinese Middle School Students

Abstract
Objective:To revise the Chinese version of defending behaviors scale(DBS)and examine its reliability and validity among Chinese middle school students.Methods:A total of 759 middle school students were investigated with the Chinese version of defending behaviors scale,with adolescent measure of empathy and sympathy(AMES),social self-efficacy questionnaire(SSEQ),adolescent social support scale,reactive-proactive aggression questionnaire(RPQ),Dela-ware school climate scale-student(DSCS-S)as the criteria-related validity instrument.A sample of 105 participants was re-tested nine weeks later.Results:The Chinese version of DBS includes four subscales:reporting to authority,comforting vic-tims,aggressive defending,and solution-focused defending.Confirmatory factor analysis revealed that a four-factor model fitted the data best(WLSMVx2=526.86,df=129,CFI=0.973,TLI=0.967,RMSEA=0.064,SRMR=0.044).Correlations among the DBS subscales and the external criterion variables provided evidence of criterion validity.Cronbach's α coeffi-cient of four subscales ranged 0.801~0.842,and the test-retest reliability ranged 0.703-0.806.Conclusion:The Chinese version of DBS is a psychometrically valid and reliable instrument to assess defending behaviors in bullying among Chinese middle school students.关键词
